TRAINING AND EDUCATING OUR MEMBERS

Disrict 12 is proud to be one of the only district offices in the nation to have it's own training center and be able to offer free  trainings to AFGE District 12 members almost every month to our members.  We started to offer free trainings in a small conference room of our office in 2007 and quickly realized by the number of those wishing to attend that we needed a much larger space.

In 2008 moved to a new office in Escondido, CA which included the space needed for our training center.  Since then we have trained hudreds of new union activists, along with offering some refresher courses with the most up to date information to some of those who've been around the block a time or two.  We can comfortably seat 40 participants in classroom arrangment, or up to 70 meeting style. Our fully equipped training center includes projector, drop down projection screen, a sound system, wireless internet, etc.

* Pleae note the above free trainings are offered to members of AFGE District 12 Locals only.  Members must attain authorization from their local's to attend.  Either the local or the registrant is responsible any travel, lodging, and per diem costs they may incur.

ANNUAL OFFSITE TRAININGS

AFGE District 12 also holds an annual Districtwide Training offsite.  This Training is open to local's & their members from throughout the federation. Each Districtwide training lasts 3 - 5 days and offer ten or more classes at each Districtwide trainings. The location of this training rotates each year based to a location usually within our region. The location and dates are set by a vote of our Local's Presidents. We generally have 250-400 participants at each of these trainings. It's a great place to not only learn but also to network, meet other union activists, and compare notes. As our training budget is a self generated fund there are registration fees to attend a Districtwide Training. The charge is usaully between $250-$400 per registrant. This helps to cover the costs of meeting space, instructors, staff travel expenses, materials, shipping of equipment, etc.
